Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
